What We See in Barrels, Again and Again

August 5, 2025

Some items are sent once.

Others are sent every year — even every sailing.

They're not luxury goods.

They're practical. They're loved. They're understood.

After decades of shipping barrels, boxes and crates, here’s what we see turning up, again and again:

Food Staples: Chocolate Horlicks (bulk tins), Milo, Ovaltine, Custard powder, Tinned fish, dry pulses, long-grain rice

Toiletries & Skincare: Dove, Aveeno, Body Shop Shea Butter, Dettol, Sanex, antibacterial soaps, Deodorants and personal care multi-packs

British Pantry Extras: Digestives and Hobnobs, Yorkshire Tea, Bisto, Colman’s mustard, Walkers crisps (if packed right!)

Clothes & Shoes: School uniforms and black shoes, Banded trainers and sliders, Multipack socks, underwear, and basic layers

Household Items: Duvets, towel sets, bedsheets (often John Lewis or Argos), Irons, kettles, clocks, Blankets or curtains — sometimes brand new, sometimes passed on

For the Kids: Vests, baby grows, nappies, Books and toys, Formula and snacks

Gifts & Extras: Perfume, cologne, Pyjamas or slippers, Second-hand phones or tablets, Birthday cards and notes

Each one of these items says something. They say:

"We’re thinking of you."

"We know what you need."

"We care enough to pack it properly."

That’s what really travels inside the barrel — love, across distance.
